Two situations in which a tilt door could be the right choice for your garage

Here are some situations in which a tilt door could be the right choice for your garage.

You have a wider-than-average vehicle that you need to park in the garage

If the vehicle that you need to park in the garage is wider than the average car, then you might find a tilt door to be more suitable than, for example, a side-hinged garage door. The reason for this is that when a tilt door is opened, it is elevated in such a way that it doesn't take up lots of space on the garage entrance's sidewalls. The only parts of it that are attached to the sidewalls are two slim bars that are connected to the main door frame.

This means that if you can just barely squeeze your wide vehicle into your garage as it is, you won't need to be concerned that the new garage door will take up valuable inches of the entrance's width and make it even harder for you to safely get your vehicle in and out of this space. In contrast, if you got a side-hinged door in this situation, the doors, when fully opened, might take up a few inches on either side of the garage's entrance. This could then increase the chances of you scraping your vehicle against the opened doors as you drive it in or out of the garage.

The driveway leading to the garage is quite long

You should also consider getting this door if the driveway leading to your garage is reasonably long, as tilt doors are particularly well-suited to properties of this kind. The reason for this is that a tilt door projects outward from the garage it's attached to when it's being opened.

Whilst the projection of this door when it's being opened can be useful on rainy days (as it can protect any items you need to leave just outside the garage from the rain) this characteristic of it also means that the few feet of space directly in front of the garage needs to be kept free when it's in the process of going from closed to open, to ensure that it doesn't collide with any objects that are too close to it. If you have a reasonably long driveway and don't, therefore, need to position your vehicle right in front of the garage whilst the door is opening, but instead, have enough free driveway space to keep your vehicle a few feet from the garage during this process, then you should find this type of door suitable for your property.
